Bursa Malaysia launches gold futures contract

On 7 October 2013, first precious metal futures contract started trading on Bursa Malaysia. This new cash-settled gold futures contract is available to all market participants, particularly domestic retail investors. It is traded in small contract sizes of 100 grams, enabling investors to trade in small quantities.

CBOE and CFE to launch derivatives on CBOE Russell 2000 volatility index

On 30 October 2013, the Chicago Board Options Exchange and CBOE Futures Exchange will launch trading on Russell 2000 Volatility Index options and futures. The Russell 2000 Index is the premier measure of the performance of small-capitalization US stocks and an effective gauge of the health of the US economy.

CME Group to launch aluminum contract

CME Group plans to launch a physically-delivered aluminum contract. It is designed to meet the market’s desire for liquidity and transparency.

Dalian Commodity Exchange plans to launch egg futures

The Dalian Commodity Exchange is to launch futures contracts for eggs in a bid to expand its agricultural product-related contracts. The contract may help stabilize egg prices by providing more liquidity to the market. Egg futures contracts on the Dalian Commodity Exchange would be the first ever in China.

ISE Gemini Rolls Out 200 Additional Products

On 30 September, ISE Gemini (ISE’s second options exchange) has completed the rollout of 200 additional products. Following this expansion, ISE Gemini now lists all options classes included in the penny pilot and the most active non-penny pilot names.

Moscow Exchange launches futures on German stocks

On 3 October 2013, the Moscow Exchange initiated the trading of five futures contracts on top five German issuers BMW AG, Daimler AG, Deutsche Bank AG, Siemens AG, and Volkswagen AG.

NYSE Liffe US to launch futures on Arca gold miners index

On 7 October 2013, NYSE Liffe US will launch a new futures contract based on the NYSE Arca Gold Miners Index. These innovative new futures will complement the existing market for the Market Vectors Gold Miners ETP listed on NYSE Arca as well as options on GDX traded on the NYSE Arca and NYSE Amex options platforms.

Singapore Exchange launches thermal coal futures

On 21 October 2013, the Singapore Exchange launched two thermal coal futures contracts. They will further enhance the current suite of AsiaClear futures offering. The contracts will be traded and cleared on SGX-DT and SGX-DC, respectively.

Shanghai Futures Exchange launches bitumen futures

On 9 October 2013, the Shanghai Futures Exchange launched bitumen futures contract for trading to offer companies more hedging tools and improve the structure of the economy. The world’s first futures in road-paving material bitumen generated strong investor interest after launching.
