China Financial Futures Exchange launches 5-year treasury bond futures

On 9 September 2013, the China Financial Futures Exchange launched the 5-year treasury bond futures. Listing treasury bond futures is an important milestone in China’s capital market development and is essential to the liberalization of interest rates and the internationalization of the RMB and crucial in establishing Shanghai as an international financial center.

Eurex to launch FX derivatives

On 7 October 2013, Eurex Exchange will extend its product range by introducing a further asset class, the currency derivatives. The Exchange will initially offer futures and options on the following currency pairs: EUR/USD, EUR/GBP, EUR/CHF, GBP/USD, GBP/CHF and USD/CHF. The majority of OTC FX derivatives trading takes place in these currency pairs.

Hong Kong Exchanges lists first ETF on CESC index

On 6 August 2013, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing listed the ChinaAMC CES China A80 Index ETF, the first ETF on an index from China Exchanges Services Company, HKEx’s joint venture with the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges.

ISE lists Russia ETF

The International Securities Exchange began listing options on the Market Vectors Russia ETF Trust, offering customers exposure to the most liquid direct investment in actively traded Russian equities.

London Stock Exchange lists first DAX ETF

On 23 August 2013, the London Stock Exchange listed the db x-trackers DAX UCITS ETF, the first ETF based on DAX, the blue-chip German equity index, to list in London. The physical ETF will give UK-based investors their first ever opportunity to gain direct exposure to the leading German index.

NYSE Euronext introduces new FX derivatives contracts

On 16 September 2013, NYSE Euronext listed GBP/USD and GBP/EUR options and futures on its market in Amsterdam. The new FX options and futures are intended to retail and professional investors who wish to invest in currency derivatives without being exposed to physical delivery.

Osaka Securities Exchange to launch CNX Nifty index futures

The Osaka Securities Exchange has entered into a license agreement for CNX Nifty, the benchmark index of the National Stock Exchange India, with India Index Services & Products, a subsidiary of NSE. Under this agreement, OSE shall introduce a Yen-denominated index futures contract based on CNX Nifty with the targeted launch timing of March 2014. This will provide an opportunity to investors in Japan to trade India’s most liquid index contract in Japanese yen.

TMX’s Toronto Stock Exchange lists NASDAQ Dividend Achievers Index ETFs

The Toronto Stock Exchange has listed two Vanguard ETFs based on NASDAQ OMX Group’s Dividend Achievers Select Index: the Vanguard US Dividend Appreciation Index ETF and the Vanguard US Dividend Appreciation Index ETF which are now available to investors in Canada.
